as runners, sometimes we need a little extra push.
Admittedly, I go through periods where I struggle to get out the door to run.
In a recent post, “How To Talk Yourself Into Running… When You Really Don’t Want To“, I addressed this very topic!
If you haven’t read it, you definitely should.
It’s a good one!

Another tactic that I didn’t mention in that post is to use a personal mantra or quote to help light that fire.
Here are a few of my favorite running quotes, hopefully they will help you stay motivated when you need it most…
“We all have dreams. But in order to make dreams come into reality, it takes an awful lot of determination, dedication, self-discipline, and effort.” – Jesse Owens
“Believe that you can run farther or faster. Believe that you’re young enough, old enough, strong enough, and so on to accomplish everything you want to do. Don’t let worn-out beliefs stop you from moving beyond yourself.” – John Bingham
“I run because it’s so symbolic of life. You have to drive yourself to overcome the obstacles. You might feel that you can’t. But then you find your inner strength, and realize you’re capable of so much more than you thought.”
– Arthur Blank
“Failing is not trying. Failing is not enjoying every step along the way. Failing is not feeling. There will be punches, there will be pain and goals far from met, but in no way can we fail if we make our own path, even if it doesn’t reach the top.” – Kilian Jornet
“Every day is a good day when you run.” – Kevin Nelson
“Remember the feeling you get from a good run is far better than the feeling you get from sitting around wishing you were running.” – Sarah Condor
“What does not destroy me, makes me strong.” – Nietzsche
“Running is a big question mark that’s there each and every day. It asks you, ‘Are you going to be a wimp or are you going to be strong today?'”
– Peter Maher
“Success is the sum of small efforts, repeated day in and day out.” – Robert Collier
“The will to win means nothing without the will to prepare.” – Juma Ikangaa
“It’s supposed to be hard. If it wasn’t hard, everyone would do it. The hard…is what makes it great!” – Tom Hanks in A League of Their Own
“Ask yourself: ‘Can I give more?’. The answer is usually: ‘Yes’.” – Paul Tergat
“Many people shy away from hills. They make it easy on themselves, but that limits their improvement. The more you repeat something, the stronger you get.” – Joe Catalano
“If it doesn’t challenge you, it doesn’t change you.” – Unknown
“To be a consistent winner means preparing not just for one day, one month or even one year – but for a lifetime.” – Bill Rodgers
“Give me speed, give me strength, let me fly.” – Kate Grace
“Racing teaches us to challenge ourselves. It teaches us to push beyond where we thought we could go. It helps us to find out what we are made of. This is what we do. This is what it’s all about.” – PattiSue Plumer
“Shoot for the moon. Even if you miss it you will land among the stars.” – Les Brown
“May the road rise up to meet you. May the wind be always at your back.” – Irish Proverb

Thanks for the inspiration! I’ve been sidelined for nearly two months and feeling very defeated but this post really helped remind me that I may be down for the moment but that doesn’t mean I’m out.
