I can’t believe that the Modesto Half Marathon was over 2 weeks ago.
As I mentioned yesterday, my vacation to Arizona and San Francisco royally threw me out of wack, so I apologize for the late post.
If you read my pacing blog post, you already know that I had a blast pacing this race.
It was an absolutely amazing experience!
But, I digress… We already talked about that.
What about the race itself, man?!?!
That is exactly what we are going to talk about today.
The race was held on February 20, 2016 in Modesto, CA.
I arrived around 3 PM on Saturday, checked in and made my way over to the expo.
The expo was held at the convention center that was in the same building as my hotel…
So that was convenient.
From the get-go, I was impressed with this race.
The check-in was organized, the expo was not too crowded, had a bunch of great vendors, and the SWAG bag was out of this world.
I love me a good SWAG bag!
With my entry, I received a reusable bag filled with lots of goodies, coupons, and samples, a cool race shirt, arm sleeves, and a bottle of wine specifically made for the race.
I was thoroughly impressed with everything that I received at the expo.
The theme of the race was superheroes.
As you can see from the picture below, I definitely love my race shirt.
The cape on the back is super cool and it says…
“I ran 13.1 What’s Your Superpower?”
Awesome, right???
I know!
Anyway, after dropping off the massive amount of race expo gifts at my hotel, I headed over to Fusio Universal Bistro for dinner.
There was a coupon for a free pasta dinner with a purchase of a beverage in the reusable bag from the expo…
So that was a no brainer.
Free food?
Yes please.
I ordered a Pad Thai pasta that was fantastic!
After a delicious meal, I headed back to the hotel to get ready for an early wake up call.
I slept (surprisingly) like a log, met all of the Pacers down at the hotel lobby for some pictures and then headed to the starting line around 6:40 am.
The race started a little after 7:15 am.
I won’t bore you with the details of how the race went,
You can check out my Pacing post for that!
But, I will say that the weather was fantastic,
The course was pretty darn flat with the exception of 2 hills that were not too difficult,
Aaaaaand the scenery was very pretty.
There were a LOT of race volunteers and they actually cheered for the runners- which doesn’t always happen!
The finish line festival served both beer and wine, and finishers received a gigantic bag of food courtesy of Save Mart!
Check out the race medal!
It doubles as a refrigerator magnet and has a display stand on the back.
It was very obvious that the race organizers put a lot of time, energy, and money into this race.
There were many extra touches that made this race a great experience overall.
Not only would I love to pace this race again, but I would be glad to run it in the future as a participant.
Thanks Modesto!
Love it! That race tee is calling my name…the free food has me more excited than those really BIG packages on Christmas Day. Thanks for sharing!
