Funktown: Population Me

I am currently in a bit of a running funk.

Ever since I achieved my sub 2 half marathon goal at the OC Half Marathon

index

I have NOT felt like running.

Although I have had a few races after the OC,

2 specifically…

I still haven’t gotten my MOJO back.

I am still running well, and feel good when I run…

I just don’t feel like doing it.

Whoops.

I actually emailed my coach a few weeks ago and admitted that I was in a funk.

She said that my feelings were totally normal.

Which I knew, but it was definitely nice to hear it from my coach.

And If I am being honest…

This isn’t the first time this has happened.

I actually fell into two or three funks last year.

But I made it through.

I have got about 35 miles to run this week and…

I am pledging to you, that I will do it.

I might not want to run, but I know I need to.

And let’s not forget that I have a HUGE race in 61 days.

Yeah… it’s time to get down to business.

Definitely.

Want some tips to get yourself out of a running funk?

Check out the blog post that I wrote on this very topic.

I just re-read it myself… and I am going to take my own advice.

My stages of a running funk are: 1. panic that it will last forever, 2. remind myself i’m being silly because nothing lasts forever, 3. accept that it is happening and that it is ok (for a bit), 4. let myself wallow for a few days, then 5. go to the master spreadsheet, write in a few days of “rest” in a row which makes me feel ashamed/motivated to get moving. Loved the tips on the other post about how to get out of a funk, may have to refer back as I train for my second ever half marathon in October. Thanks for the posts!

Like you, we have the San Diego RnR Half this weekend. I know we tapered too soon–mostly due to funk. Was supposed to run 10 miles last weekend in Dallas, but the heat and humidity hit us like a brick wall at mile 5. Finally got out on the Guadalupe Trail here in San Jose yesterday and knocked out a 5K. Yep, the cause of the funk is mental and the only cure for the funk is mental–forcing oneself to get out and run. See you at the finish line!

Exactly. I forced myself to run last night and I feel so much better. I’m sorry to hear about the heat and humidity. Hopefully the weather will be good this weekend. Best of luck to you!!!

I feel the same way since completing my first Ironman 70.3 Good to know other people get in that same funk. Knock out those 35 miles! you got this and before you know it you’ll be excited to run again

😦 I am trying to get back in to a routine…but I don’t have an excuse of me running a half. So take it easy and rest up. You will get back there 🙂 Hopefully I will too!!

😦 I am sorry you feel this way! Maybe just pushing yourself to run might help? Or sign up for another race? That always seems to help me 🙂

I’ve never completed a run wishing I hadn’t but if I don’t go I know I’ll wish I had. Also, the days I miss a run, for whatever reason are always the days I see 100s of people running and wish i were them.
