Hello and Happy Day to you!
If you read my blog post from Tuesday, you already know that Rock n’ Roll San Diego did not go as planned.
I tweaked my hamstring during the 5K and was unable to run the half marathon on Sunday.
It was a major bummer.
I will admit that I was both royally pissed and extremely upset.
I had registered for the race back in June of 2015 and had really been looking forward to running it.
On race morning, I awoke to the sounds of cheering and the ringing of cowbells.
Uggghhhhhhhhhh…..
Why did I have to pick a hotel so close to the finish line?!?
I sulked…
I cried…
I acted like a total freaking baby.
I wanted to just shove my head under the covers for the rest of the day and feel bad for myself.
But!
My friend Megan and Heather were running and I needed to watch them finish.
I mean, that is what friends do… right?!?
Right.
So, I sucked it up and hobbled my way over to the finish line, grabbed a cowbell and started screaming.
As I stood there, cheering for thousands of people I didn’t know, I thought about all of the races I still have yet to do this year…
Napa to Sonoma
San Francisco
Ventura
Rock n’ Roll Los Angeles
Malibu
CIM
I realized that I have 10 MORE races this year to do.
10!
I thought to myself, “why in the heck am I crying over one race?”
I mean really.
And I realized…
An injury is not the end of the world.
Even though it feels like it is.
There will be other races.
Even though it doesn’t seem that way.
The most important thing now is for me to be smart.
To rest.
To foam roll.
To get lots of sleep.
To ice.
To heal.
And when my hamstring is ready… running will embrace me with open arms.
Why?
Because running is always there.
Running is always ready and waiting.
Because running is awesome.

When I injured myself during the Avengers Half Marathon I was devastated. Partially because my insurance was a nightmare to deal with and it took months before I could get MRIs. In the end, the injuries are going to be lifelong and I am just going to have to deal with them and – literally – run around them. It helps to read other runners’ stories of injuries! Thanks for sharing!

Way to have a positive attitude! Injuries are the most frustrating thing ever! I’m dealing with one myself as well!

Hope you’re doing better! I was supposed to do my 50k today but have the cold from hell and I keep coughing so much my lungs hurt… 😦

It is getting a little bit better, but I’m stressed today and it’s tightened up a little. I think I need to chill out 😉 how is your knee?
