What am I afraid of?

Happy day to you!

According to the race countdown thingy over there…

I have 3 days until the big day.

And by big day, I mean the OC Half Marathon.

You know, the race where I plan to blow my current (post-injury) PR out of the water?

I know I have NOT talked about this race before, so I can see where you could be lost.

(I’m using my sarcastic voice- in case you can’t hear it)

Yeah right.

I have talked about this race like 2 billion times (here, here, and here).

Weird things runners do…

There is no doubt about it.

Runners are freaking weird.

I mean seriously.

We run long distances for fun.

Most people hate walking to the mailbox and we look forward to our long runs.

Like I said…

You know how much I love “keeping it real”

So, let’s talk about just how weird we really are! Continue reading

How I Fuel for Long Runs and Races

Happy day to you.

Now that I am officially neck deep into marathon training for the San Francisco Marathon…

I thought it would be a good idea to talk about my fueling tactics for long runs and races.

Before we get into it, I must mention that this is what works for me.

It is important for you to experiment on your own to find what works best for you, your body, and your training.

The information I am providing is just a suggestion- I am by no means a nutrition expert.

Okay, I am climbing down from my soap box now…

Let’s get to it!

The Day Before

First off, I make sure to drink lots and lots of water.

Hydration is SUPER important.

If I have a race the next day, I have a higher carb meal at lunch. Continue reading

6 Lessons Running Has Taught Me

My first race was a 10K Turkey Trot in Bakersfield, Ca in November 2008.

My first Half Marathon was in October 2009 in Long Beach, Ca.

My first Marathon was in November 2009 in Fresno, Ca.

My first obstacle race was in April 2010 in Chino, Ca.

My first triathlon was in March 2013 in Arroyo Grande, Ca.

As you can see, I have had many “first” races in my nine year running career.

I have made many mistakes. Continue reading

8 Reasons Why Running Friends Rock!

Happy day to you!

For many, many years I considered myself a solo runner.

I was very uncomfortable with the idea of running with another person.

I ran by myself, I went to races by myself, and I went to expos by myself.

I thrived on the idea that I didn’t need anyone, and that I was “strong” enough to do it all on my own. Continue reading

Race Pacing Changed My Life

Hi everyone!

As many of you know, I was given the opportunity to be the 2:30 Pacer for the Modesto Half Marathon this past Sunday.

I am proud to say that it was a ground breaking, earth shattering, life altering experience.

It was an event that I will never ever forget.

To answer your first question…

How close did you get to the 2:30 finish time?

Well… pretty damn close.

Preeeetttyyyy damn close.

To answer your second question…

Was it hard?

Knee Trouble?

In case you didn’t already know, I absolutely DISLIKE Mondays.

I feel super jacked up after the time change this weekend… so I officially loathe this Monday more than all of the others combined.

Besides my overall disdain for today, I began to feel some pain in my knees towards the end of my long run yesterday.

So, needless to day, I am stressin’ out pretty hard.

Your SMART Running Goals!

So, I have majorly been slacking on my blog posts this week.

For that, I am terribly sorry.

Things have been a little nutzo at work!

Annnnnnd I’m getting ready for yet another vacation, so needless to say I am very behind.

Yes, I know, I take a LOT of vacations.

Working in the hospitality industry will do that to you.

A friend and I are driving down to San Diego for the weekend!

We are going to visit a few friends while we are there.

I’m pretty stoked!

Anyway, enough about me.

Last week, I talked about the importance of making SMART running goals.

I asked you to write down your SMART goals and email them to me.

And you didddddddddddd!

I was beyond stoked to get the number of responses that I did…

THANK YOU to those of you who took the time to share their goals.

Let’s go over them! Continue reading

The Runner’s High Made Me Do It!

Let’s just get real here people…

(You know how much I LOVE doing that!)

Runners are a weird bunch.

We do lots and lots of weird things.

From our lengthy pre-race rituals, to compression socks, to snot rockets…

We are weirdos.

And that is okay!

Admittedly, the runners high can get the best of us…
