7 Tips for Running Safety
Hello and Happy day to you!
Sadly, there has been a significant uptick in running related disappearances, injuries and murders lately.
This, unfortunately, is the world we live in, folks.
It is imperative that we are always prepared for any situation that my arise during a run.
I have a few helpful tips and tricks that you can use to protect yourself.
…And Take Names.
Hello and Happy day to you!
Every few months I feel like I write one of these posts…
The post where I realize I am slacking (no offense Fallon!), decide to pick myself up by the bootstraps and get my sh*t together.
Also known as this post, this post, this post and this post.
The post where I decide to start kicking a$$ and taking names.
This post is a little different though.
Foodie Friday: The Lazy Runner Edition
Hello and happy day to you!
Today’s edition of “Foodie Friday” is going to be a little bit different.
Don’t freak out.
Instead of sharing a recipe that I like, I have a few quick and easy meal suggestions for you.
This post was inspired by a conversation I had with one of my best friends a few weeks ago.
She was complaining commenting on how she never has time to cook dinner because she is so busy working,
taking care of her family,
cleaning the house,
and of course,
working out.
And I, being the absolute laziest meal-prepper on the planet…
gave her a few suggestions that I use to make my meal prep Monday as short and sweet as possible.
I thought it would be a great idea to share those tips with you…
So here we goooooo!

I do, however, feel as though I have lost some fitness.
Or maybe it is in my head?
Who knows.
I am feeling a little off this week. Continue reading

Things That (As A Runner) I Can’t Stand!
Hello and Happy day to you!
As a runner, there are certain things that really piss me off!
I am sure most people don’t understand, but maybe you (being a fellow runner) will agree with me…
1. When some moron sprints ahead and then stops in front of me in the middle of a race.
Pull your head out of your ass, man! I mean come on! It’s called peripheral vision, use it and check out your surroundings before you come to a complete freakin’ stop. I understand that you are tired, but really? Continue reading

On Saturday, May 7, 2016 I was the 2:30 pacer for the Santa Barbara Wine Country Half Marathon.
This was my first assignment for Beast Pacing and what a day it was.
But, I am skipping ahead a little.
Let’s start at the beginning.

DOMS… it’s not a street drug, dude.
Get your head out of the gutter dudes…
DOMS stands for Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness.
Have you ever noticed that you are WAY more sore 2 days after a killer workout than you were the day after?
That’s DOMS!
Delayed onset muscle soreness (DOMS) describes a phenomenon of muscle pain, muscle soreness or muscle stiffness that occurs in the day or two after exercise. This muscle soreness is most frequently felt when you begin a new exercise program, change your exercise routine, or dramatically increase the duration or intensity of your exercise routine. Tips for Staying Cool on Hot Summer Runs!
As many of you know I hate the heat. Lately in SLO, it has been unnecessarily hot (think 104 degrees with no air conditioning hot). Most of you probably live in places where the heat is a normal way of life, but for me… it isn’t. This is one of the many reasons that I moved 20 minutes away from the beach. The fact is though, that the heat is here to stay for a bit so I figure it is time to get acclimated… as much as I don’t want to. So, here are a few tips for staying cool during those hot summer runs.
1. Run early in the morning.
It is definitely the coolest part of the day, so I recommend heading out as early as possible to avoid the heat.
2. Hydrate like a mother!
Even if you don’t feel thirsty, drink at least 8 oz. of fluid each hour, and more if you’re outside or tend to perspire a lot. You’ll run better with adequate fluid intake, and you’ll feel better, too. By keeping your water storage high, you’ll also improve your body’s cooling mechanisms. Continue reading
Getting off the rollercoaster…
Hello there!
I went to the doctor again today…
Yes, I know, I am ridiculous.
My shin was hurting pretty badly and I wanted a second opinion.
A second opinion never hurts right?
No, no it doesn’t.
So, I got a 2nd opinion… and a 2nd x-ray.
My 2nd opinion looks like this… Continue reading
The Stages of Injury Grief
Running is my best friend.
Running is who I am… it is a part of me.
I rely on it to calm me after a stressful day at work,
to aid in my weight loss,
and to feel better about myself.
Running is and always will be- the thing I run to (pun intended) when I need a break from life.
So what happened when this injury forced me to abandon my best friend?
I got super pissed, I cried (many times), and felt sorry for myself.

I’m Preventing Future Running Injuries!
Well… HELLO!
Happy Tuesday!
Hope things are well with you on this lovely day.
My shin is feeling better- which means that I am mentally feeling better.
Obviously…
My emotions are tied directly to whether or not I can run in the near future.
Obviously.
As I mentioned yesterday, not running is making me a little loco.
This is not a joke people. Continue reading
